I am 6'2" and am looking to buy either a mountain bike or a hybrid bike. I'm looking for a used bike online, if I can find a nice one. I know the tires are usually 26", but what frame size would I need? My inseam for my pants is 34", so would a 19" bike be okay?

Thanks!

i'm 6-1 race x-c 18" frame. regular playing around is 19". commuter is a 20". go with the 19" frame. get a mtn bike hybrids are crap.

That might be pushing it, because the 19 might be a little small in the top tube section. As a result, you may feel somewhat cramped on the bike. You might want to look for something in the low 20s.

If you're looking at a hybrid, then you probably don't intend to mt. bike (off road trails with logs/rocks/creek crossings/steep hills/declines). But, most people purchase mt. bikes anyway even though they don't do more than ride them on a greenway. Mt. bikes typically take 26" wheels, although 29" and the newer 650b (27.5") are available as well. Top tube length is more important for comfort than seat tube length, but bikes are measured by seat tube size (or eff. seat tube length). My inseam is 34" and I ride a 19" in mt. bike with a 24" eff. top tube length, but I'm only 6'. I'd recommend a 19" or 20".

Typically a 21" or even a 21.5" would be your best bet in most makes of Mtn bike and even a hybrid. Buying online is not for the beginner as your better off standing over one or more models as they are not all made equal.... 19" is likely too small in most models like Giant or Specialized which can run a bit small for their stated size. GT tends to run a bit large for the make and a 19" might work for you but I would not recommend it even so. Used bikes online generally mean craigslist or ebay and you just might get a lemon...If you are serious then look at previous years models and you can get a much better deal than a new bike. The call is yours and this is just my 2 cents.
