What should the role of the American media be?

To expose? To clarify? To educate?

Should the media be the voice of the people? The voice of the government? The voice of the majority? .... or of minorities?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
 
to report the UNBIASED TRUTH. Right now they report what they are told to report because they gave up their constitutionaly given right to be free from government control. Theyre just money mongers now.
 
Ultimately, I think that the media should only have a major role, if it is unbiased and not controlled by the government, which does not seem likely.

I think you can use it to expose only certain things, i.e. not just to "expose" a celebrity kissing somebody; only in a way that can really help society, like maybe the media finding and stopping a politician from doing bribes (even though that always happens anyways).

I think it should actually not educate, as I think that only findings from uncontrolled speech and actual journals and work should be teaching. It can be good and all, but sometimes, depending on who controls it, like in the case of a dictator like Stalin, can drastically change what is actually the truth, and everyone knows this already happens all the time.


So ultimately, it should just be to inform on issues that need to be dealt with.

It should be to dull the wits of you little septics and stop you thinking, so that the millionaires who run your country can keep you in your place. It's doing a grand job so far, as far as I can see.
 
The ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism has a new 21st Century program in news Journalism referenced as "We The Media, of the People for the People." Lots of info and insight to dwindling investigative reporting and death of newspapers and changing network media, and, more importantly, the internet as the source of information.
