What should I write to my penpal soldier?

I'm a part of an interest group on my campus supporting the vets and current soldiers. We recently got soldiers requesting pen-pal correspondence, so I'm more than happy to write but I'm not sure what to write about. I'd prefer answers from vets/current military but am open to all who will leave their political views out of it. Thanks so much!
 
Just introduce yourself and tell him about whats going on in your world. anything to get his mind off whats going on in his, and thank him. and a shot of perfume on the letter is always nice!!
