I live in NY and bike 3 miles to school, I also sweat easily and need to be ably to change into normal clothes soon after i get to school, so no full on outfits, (I am a guy).
I live in UK and have the same distance commute. I find that a thin fleece and tracksuit is ok in the begining of winter but later on thermal lycra tops and tights under the tracksuit are essential. Also get some Thinsulate or similar gloves, these are a must. If you really want also wear a balaclava style thing to stop your ears getting icicles on them.
