What should I tell the judge... I was picked up driving on a suspended licence coming...

...home from work? I lost licence for six months and could not get a work permit to drive. I was picked up six weeks short of being able to drive again. It was a spare of the moment thing to drive that day as my lift to work fell through and because it had been over six months since the offence I hoped it would be okay... I should have checked first. How do I get off lightly?

spur of the moment

Tell the truth. Bring in pay stubs to show you actually have a job and maybe something from your boss. Apologize. Say you did something stupid on the spur of the moment and you regret deciding to drive rather than missing work or going in late if you were lucky enough to find someone to drive you there. Explain why you couldn't have called a cab, walked, or ridden a bike. Say you won't ever be that foolish again and you are willing to do whatever the judge wants you to do in order to prove it.

Then find out exactly what you have to do when the time for the restriction runs out. Surely there is something more than getting into your car and driving it.

It might also be smart to address why you had your license suspended and what you are doing to make sure those actions never happen again. Join AA for drinking, paying your parking tickets, whatever. Play that by ear.

There is nothing you can say to the judge that will convince the judge that you were justified in knowingly and intentionally breaking the law.
