What should I make my "Layers of the earth" model out of?

For school i have to make a 3-D model of the earth and its layers. No Styrofoam balls or food. It has to be creative because it will be entered in a contest. Original too. I do not want someone to tell me what to do, just suggest.
 
Paper mache (how many other people do you think is actually going to use this one), bunch of construction paper crumpled up glued together (different colors for different layers), Go to Hobby Lobby and browse, Ballons inside each other (i think this one would be somewhat challenging to make but cool if they were transparent ballons, orignal too).
