...and worried about scams? I am thinking about buying a BMW Z4 this weekend, I already checked the vehicle history with carfax, came out clean, and I am going down WITH my mechanic, whom I trust totally, to check out/inspect the car thoroughly.
This will be my first USED car I have ever purchased from a dealer. I had 2 of my friends buy used cars from dealers, sign up for financing, pay 1k down payment, only to have the dealer come after them 2 weeks later and claim that not only did the financing not go through (even though they said they were approved), but that the 1k down payment was NON-refundable. Basically they got scammed out of 1k (their side of the story). I just find it odd that that has happened to two people I personally know and they were both the exact same situation.
I guess my question is should I simply write a check and pay outright for the car instead of financing to avoid any risks like that? And what other scams/stuff should I look for when buying used aside from carfax and having my mechanic look at it?
