what should i i do about this situation?

im in love with my guy friend and he's told me over facebook that he doesnt like me, and he acts really awkward around me, doesnt look at me, avoids eye contact etc. but before all this happened he DID used to like me im sure of it because we use to always hang out, he would have a sparkle in his eye, he'd talk in a flirting way, and he used to poke me and laugh with me. now he just doent do this, i think the reason would be because i mentioned wanting to be friends which is possibly the worst mistake i've ever done. he hardly talks to me anymore and i just wonder where the spark went. i feel really down about this and by christmas i hope to tell him how i really feel, because he works i hardly ever get to see him and the days i do see him he tends to avoid me anyway. what should i do? and what should i look out for? should i just let this go and move on or try and bring back what was once a good relationship? help needed. thanks!.
