What Should I Expect When Test Driving A Car?

I want to buy a car, most likely new and I was wondering whether or not the dealer will go with on the test drive. I know that my parents have bought new cars from the local dealer and they don't go with but they know them. I also know that they've bought used cars from an out of town dealer and they just took a copy of their liscense. I was thinking of buying a volkswagen jetta and I was wondering what to expect. I really don't want the dealer to go with because I would feel like he's watching me, I'd probably just have someone else drive the car then.

The first thing, if your interested in a car they will want you to test drive it. They only need to see your license and see if your 18 or older. If, lets say you want to test drive a high performance car, then you have to be approved for the credit that you can buy this car, and if they approve you then you can test drive it. There is no point in taking a test drive if your not gonna drive it, the meaning of a test drive is to get the feel for the car and if it suits your need.
