What should I eat after long hike?

I ate cereal before hiking 7 miles, about 2.5 of those miles going up a mountain. I brought three bottles of water with me and used them all up. When I finished, I felt exhausted. I ate a snack of wheat-cheese crackers but still felt tired and in need of calories. So, on the way home I stopped at Dairy Queen and got a small blizzard. Probably not the best, but it did give me some energy back. I don't like the saturated fat though, and I'm trying to keep my weight down (have lost 10 pounds from hiking past few months). Any ideas of an alternative quick energy food?

Have some kind of granola bar. Or some fruit. It always works for me when I work out.
