Hi Gary and welcome to the board:wave:
How many weeks has it been since your surgery? Remeraber that this is major surgery, the nerves get moved around and irritated. It will take awhile for them to get settled down. Have you been taking it easy and following the doctors orders? Try ice or heat, whichever one feels better and some Ibuprofen for inflammation. Have you talked to your surgeon yet about this? You may want to call him and make him aware. Often they will do an MRI just to make sure the surgery site looks good. Were you injured, how did you end up having surgery? Did you have this leg pain before your surgery? Sometimes you can end up with nerve damage if the nerve was compromised for a long time. Give us a few more details about your situation. Godd luck and keep us posted.

Hello deb thanks for replying
I had surgery 9 weeks ago after being in a great deal of pain in left leg for 4 months.i went to belgium for my surgery due to the fact that the NHS in England are not very effiecient.i was informed that i would be able to return to work within 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. The surgen was very happy with how my operation went. I am currently taking Ibruffen/painkillers and valium to ease muscle cramps however this is not helping me,just making me feel very spaced.i had physio in belguim after operation for one week and continued this back in England, however i was advised by my surgen in belguim that i was to walk as much as i could and not to sit for long perioRAB of time i was told all this while i was still in belguim,However when i returned to England i was told by my English physio that i was doing to much one week and not enough the next. All i know is im in Pain and im unsure on what to do.Do you have any ideas? have you had the same operation? if so how long was your recovery time and have you returned back to work?.

Hello deb

I have spent all day on the phone chasing down the medical equielivant of belguim drug to english drugs.I have had no success with this.I have contacted london based company who organised my operation they are attempting to get belguim drugs sent to my self (if you have no emails from me in the next five months it will be because im doing time for international drug smuggling:).If the drugs do not work i will need a MRI scan AGAIN!!

Hope your having a good day

Hi Gary,
I had a laminectomy (almost like a disectomy) in June 07. I had a herniated disc (L5-S1) and also a large fragment that broke off and was sitting on the S1 nerve root. My surgery was a success but I have permanent nerve damage...not from the surgery, but from the injury and the fragment on the nerve root. I can only work 4 hours a day and am taking meRAB for the nerve pain. I may eventually have to have a spinal cord stimulator placed.
There are meRAB that are specifically for nerve pain that your surgeon may be able to prescribe for you and give those nerves a chance to settle down. Lots of the pain medications do not do a very good job on nerve pain.
Most doctors will tell you that walking is good for you after surgery. But they will also tell you that if you do something and it aggravates the pain....STOP! Let your body help guide you. If you feel bad after walking 2 blocks only walk 1 block for awhile.
Bottom line is that I would definitely contact the surgeon and let him know all the details of your pain...where it is, describe how it feels, what aggravates it, what makes it feel better, etc.
He may even give you a short course of oral steroiRAB to decrease any inflammation in there.
Nine weeks is really not that long so don't worry too much but definitely follow up on it. Meanwhile, take it easy, remeraber no bending, lifting, twisting. You may want to try some ice on your back where the surgery site is...only 15 mins on and then off for awhile so you don't get frostbite! That seems to help my pain.
Hang in there and please keep us posted. We care! :)

Gary ,

Sorry about the leg pain , I think alot of us suffer from that too.. Since your surgery was so short ago ,it may take some more time to recover..If it still bothers you after a few months or gets worse tell your Dr.

I have a spinalcord Stimulator for the awful leg /feet pain ...It sucks.
Sure alot of people will help answer your questions ,,Very friendly people here.. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Hi Shawly

Thanks for the reply

Concidering the short time since my operation i have gone from 100 meters before the operation to 300 meters and 20 minutes on the tredmill in the gym. My work can have the need to cover several miles a day and drive 200 hundred miles or more there and back. The surgeon believes the operation was a success but nobody can say to put up with the pain for however long and it will get better without causing permenant damage.

Hope it all goes well for you
