what should I do to deal with "uncouth" people?

That depends on what your definition of uncouth is, what may be uncouth in one culture may be totally appropriate in another. Being considerate is like being humble, if you have to talk about it perhaps your not. I was taught that it is terribly uncouth to talk about how well mannered you are, how much money or possessions you have, or what your social status is.
