I am a sophomore in high school and have been looking at colleges that I might be interested in. I am thoroughly interested in majoring in film, and my objective is to become a director, preferably in Hollywood. I know this is a bogus dream and all, and I know that almost EVERYONE dreams of making it to Hollywood, but I really want to try.
I am interested in the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts. This is a very prestigious choice for a school, and I want to do everything I can to raise my chances of being accepted.
I am in my second semester of high school currently, and I am trying to decide which classes to take for my Junior and Senior years. Should I go the theater path and take theater and theater management classes, or should I follow the video path? My school offers many electives in both fields, so should I take one, the other, or a mixture of both? Should I also take a creative writing class?
About the portfolio, what kinds of things are the people at USC interested in? Do they like documentaries, or should I try to make a short, maybe 15 minute individual film?
Will taking any AP classes help me in my efforts to being accepted at this school? I am currently signed up for AP Chem, AP Calc, and AP English.
Thank you so much, anyone who is taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate it.
Also, I forgot to include, I take almost all honors classes, and currently have a 3.9 or 4.0, and am ranked number 10 in my class of 239 students. Will this help me at all?
Thank you again.
