What should I do if there are birds in an air duct in my apartment building?

I live in an apartment building and can hear birds really clearly above the vent in my kitchen. I thought about animal control, but in my county, their website FAQ says that they don't respond to calls about wildlife in attics, garages, etc, unless they pose a threat to human health or are injured. Plus, I don't know if the 24 hour maintenance crew my apartment building has would be qualified to basically remove birds from a ceiling. Any thoughts?
 
you could use a smoke bomb if they are adult birds.

BUT..

it would set off fire alarms.

consult your apapartment manager.

smoke them out and sela the hole would be your best bet if they let you.
