What should i do if i found an unlocked bike?

What should i do if somebody left their bike unlocked in a public place? I attached my spare u lock with a note on it asking them to leave their contact information and they their bike was left unattended for several hours. I didn't want their bike to be stolen by some low- life thief. What should my next action be?

Go back and check the bike to see if anyone left a note.

This is hilarious, i often leave my bike unlocked at the library, sometimes you just feel like taking the risk. If i came out and my bike was locked up i would be more angry than happy. My advice is unlock the bike, if it gets stolen the person will learn a lesson. Actions have consequences, you don't need to assert yourself into the situation because in my opinion you actually doing that person a disservice by preventing them from learning from their mistakes.

Putting a lock on a bike that is not yours is the same thing as stealing, you are preventing them from using their property.
