Okay... so I really want to get a beach cruiser bike and put a seat on it so I can take my daughter (8 months old) out for rides. But I keep thinking about how the sun and wind will be on her. Even with a trailer, there is road dust and heat.

But I REALLY need to exercise regularly. The baby belly just isn't going anywhere. My son (2 yrs old) will be in school 3 mornings a week. So that is when I want to exercise.

So I started thinking a gym membership might be better than a bike, my daughter would be in the gym's day care. I hate the idea of leaving her with anyone but myself. However, I need to exercise... and it would only be for an hour or so.

What am I going to do? A bike would be nice, but a gym would be nice too. I need to make a decision. Please give me any advice you have. Any experiences you have to share would be awesome. The gym is a 24 hour fitness.

Here's the thing - your 8 month old might like a bike ride now and then but what if she doesn't? What if she likes it some days and screams her head off the others? And she will grow - it is tough to pedal around with an extra 20 lbs and then as she gets older, what if she gets sick of riding?

I personally would get the membership and also try walking a few mornings a week with her in her stroller or in a wagon. I walk about 1/2 mile every night and it adds up - I lost 6lbs in 2 months.

Both nice. I would choose the gym if you can afford it. So much equipment to choose from, and the weather can't stop you from working out. Your daughtr will be in the daycare for an hour, and you will be IN the facility. I think it's a great idea.

Is it financially feasible to purchase both a bike and a gym membership? The main benefit of the gym would be the variety of machines they have available. You could still take your kids out on the bike a few times a week. You could even ride the bike to the gym.

If it's not feasible, I would suggest the gym.

I wish I could go to a gym, but the cost of membership as well as gas and time away is not worth it to me. I bought a few exercise dvd's and do them at home. My kids are 2 and 3 and they even do some of it with me. Other than that - the absolute best exercise is pushing the baby in a stroller in my opinion. When I had my 2nd I had gained 50 pounds. It only took me 2 months to lose every pound plus 10 extra by pushing both kids in a double stroller one mile every day. I would consider a gym with a daycare if it were an option for me, but I feel it's more environmentally and financially responsible to do the videos and take walks at home. good luck!
