What should every 19 year old girl know how to cook?

It Is I, sorry to burst your bubble, but dear mom is right again, If you when for that womans dream of the skip down the proverbial isle, is that all your going to feed you man.

I call a spade a spade so don't be offended, I would try and not find time, but make time and get with your mom and learn more, and maybe a couple of times you can prepare some family meals.

I bought the wrong kind of dip for a veggie platter for a party I got invited to tomorrow. My mom noticed which dip I chose, and became concerned with my cooking skills. She started asking me what I'll do when I have a mother-in-law and a husband.

Truth is, I like to cook and I want to be good at it.

I just figured I'd learn more when I get my own house.

Mostly, I can bake things. Yum! But aside from that, I'm limited to things like homemade pizza, potatoes, chicken, vegetable dishes, and mac and cheese (homemade). Is this a good start?
P.S. My mom is a really good cook. She handles most of the food in the house. I am busy with work and school.

"Wanting" to learn is the first step! When I was your age I relied on my mother for advice and The Betty Crocker Cookbook. The book has the basic skills and lovely recipes. I am much older and I still refer to it.

Sounds like you have a good range already, if you want to improve then I recommend buying a students guide to cooking book. Failing that, move out and learn how to cook, or eat noodles everynight for a month, it worked for me. xD

Also, just curious, what base do you use on your pizza's? I make a mean scone based pizza =)
