What should America's State Religion Be?

The Bible can be read in different ways that give people different conclusions about how to be a Christian.

On a side note, I noticed that some people picked "Arian" and "Coptic". Care to share the reasoning behind those choices?
 
When exactly did the US need Europeans to die on its shores defending it from Facism or Communism? Hm?

You can't blame someone for not being there when they weren't needed.
 
Pretty poor. I'm trying to figure out which sect of Christians provided the values on which the USA was founded. Hence the list of sects to choose from in the poll.
 
I think some people are of the opinion that we should not have a state "religion" as long as the state god is "The father, the son, and the holy spirit." They do not seem to be able to wrap their head around the idea that the state endorsing their version of diety is the same thing as endorsing a religion.
 
No they didn't. They started none of the sessions with a prayer of any sort. After several weeks Benjamin Franklin (of all people) moved to begin sessions with a prayer. There was some discussion and Alexander Hamilton suggested that it would have been more appropriate to make such a motion when the convention began. The session was adjourned and the topic never came up again.
Actually, that's not true either. Washington used to go to church but always left just before the communion service. The pastor, the Reverend Doctor James Abercrombie, mentioned to Washington that it gave bad example for Washington to leave during the service, so Washington stopped going to church.

When Dr. Abercrombie was asked by the Rev. Bird Wilson about Washington's religious beliefs. Abercrombie responded, "Sir, Washington was a Deist." Abercrombie was in a position to know, being his friend as well as his pastor.
 
The bible is open to a great deal of interpretation, though I fully admit that I don't succeed in following the Bible the whole time, something which is true for pretty much every Christian that ever lived, though some have come closer than others. To be a Christian to me means primarily to believe that Jesus is Lord, and to trust in the salvation he has given us. We should follow his commanRAB, but God forgives us when we fall short, it is faith, hope and love that makes us Christian. I don't pick and choose what to follow from the Bible, but I do believe that the ultimate authority is God, not the flawed recorRAB of his work created by man. The living word, Jesus, is what is important, if the writings of men contradict the living word, then I'm going with the living word, every time.

State religion? America should ideally, like all other states, have a religion of secular humanism.
 
On the subject of divorce, Henry VIII's remarriage would not be permitted by the modern Anglican church, even under the new guidelines recently adopted, as his second wife was involved in the breakup of his first marriage.
 
To say the Bible is open to interpretation would be to say God is not infallable which even He says his not true. So one must believe in his Word to believe in Him. Timothy even talks about how the Bible IS the Word. Even so, we all screw up but it is not our actions that are the sin but the our will and want and desires. Thus if you believe in abortion and continue without knowing it is wrong then you have no been forgiven for a sin you have done (all according to the Christian faith). To believe in a Christian God is to believe in an absolute standard of right and wrong set by God. People say abortion is not in the Bible...well, guess what, it talks about what murder is, how you can't murder, and how the baby is a life and thus would be murder if you killed it. Remember, it is not the action but the thought and will. If a women gets an abortion with a selfish intention she has sinned under GoRAB eyes. (all according to the Bible and the Christian faith of course).
 
Turn the other cheek? Thou shalt not klil? Bear false witness? There Clinton and Bush both bad christians. Not that this should matter in the least. Judge each man on his ability and intentions I say.

Read Jo Bennett's post again. He's pointing out that as an artifact the Bible may be reasonably doubted to be God's Word. You could show him otherwise, but instead you stonewall. Why?

He has faith, and nothing more.

I find it hard to believe that a text which omitted several major scrolls, is heavy as a brick has no translation errors, and that through several different versions spanning perioRAB in the Church's History, particularly the corrupt parts, was never edited in any way.

Suspension of logic and reason? Or suspension of all higher brain functions?
 
There should be no state religion but as it is it should be reiterated that the USA is a Judo/Christian country and founded on those principles

My vote is none.........
 
I was raised Catholic. Catholic schools can fire teachers for being divorced or remarried. One of my teachers was fired for that reason. My aunt was not hired because she was remarried. My mom cannot receive communion because she is divorced. The Catholic Church does not allowe divorced (but not annulled) people. Anullments deny that the marriage was really ever valid and the Church considers them to have never happened. It turns the kiRAB into bastarRAB.
