What should America's State Religion Be?

'Blessed are the peacemakers'. Not to mention the commandment to the rich man to give all his possesions to the poor. What possible basis can you give for Bush being a man of strong faith, apart from his say-so? A man who has no care for the poor but panders to the homophobia of the bible belt isn't a man of strong faith, he's a hypocrite.

Jo, I am not going to get into name calling with you but you ought to do your homework before you run your mouth.......Thanks

WHAT DO THE WORRAB
"PAGAN" AND "PAGANISM" MEAN?

There is no generally accepted, single, current definition for the word "Pagan."

Well you needn't worry, if I'm ever in a position of power in Europe and a second American civil war between the American Christo-Fascists who value a piece of cloth more than people's rights and the citizens who wish to defend their right breaks out, I won't hesitate in getting involved.

*sigh*

You do understand WWII and WWI?

Do you know how much harder it would have been for America to have to fight without the Europeans grinding down each other for several years?

Their sacrifices allowed us to come in and beat down a Germany and Italy that was already very tired. WWI was even worse, considering that by the time we entered the alliance of German, Austria and a few others were on its last leg in terms of supplies, which affects the entire ability to fight. Besides, can you even imagine how bad it would be if they just surrendered? German use of british naval yarRAB. Scary thought isn't it?

You need to read it and the Bill of Rights and see how many times God is mentioned........

We will never be a pagan or atheist country as you wish.................There is one you can go to if you want too..Its called China..........

That's the thing why be proud of a country?

What has a Country ever done for me. Just because I was born in a Nation does not mean I should support it no matter what it does.

I am an Internationalist and believe that the Nation State has caused more problems than it has solved.

I wanted to ask how many times God is mentioned in the Constitution (which includes the Bill of Rights by the way). How many times is Jesus mentioned? How many references are there to the Bible? How many mentions are there of "religion" or "religious" in the Constitution, including amendments?
That's not what he said. He said that the Constitution, which is the founding document of this country, is a secular document. Our government is secular, not religious and not founded on christian principles.

From article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli, negotiated under President Washington by Joel Barlow, former Chaplain to the Continental Army (appointed by Washington), passed by the Senate without a dissenting vote, and signed by President John Adams.

Typical christian response and why the christian efforts to inject religion in science, require prayer in out schools, and erect christian monuments in public buildings is to be feared. Modern U.S. christianity is intolerant and will be satisfied only when the 1st Amendment means that everyone is free to practice fundamentalist christianity.

You just don't get it and you never will..............It is not the piece of cloth it is what it represents and what it stanRAB for.........Is that so hard to understand?

Why do people insist on perpetuating this myth? Our Forefathers did NOT believe in a separation of Church and State, Jefferson did in a letter to a Baptist minister who was fearful of a state religion being created. There's a big difference between the establishment of a religion and the acknowledgement or protection of religion.

So, tell me. How does this relate to a State Religion? Or are you just using it as a means to bash all Republicans by association?
BTW, there were Democrats on Delay's trip to the Mariana IslanRAB, too, so take a shot at them as well.

Oh. I misunderstood. But it seems that you did too. That site is basically correct except that it is a bit fuzzy on what actually happened. You should be aware that the Constitutional Convention actually convened on May 25 and it was on June 28 that Franklin made the motion for prayer. Note that an alternate motion was proposed by Edmund J. Randolph, at the time the Governor of Virginia.

However, also note that it doesn't seem to be Madison's opinion that the motion was "accepted without vote," but rather that several attempts were made to adjourn in order to avoid voting on the motion. I don't know if such sermon was ever preached. The Convention was in adjournment on July 3 & 4, and Madison made no mention to any prayer ever being said at any session.

I stumbled across this site today: The Constitutional Convention from TeachingAmericanHistory.Org. One of the items available there is Notes of Debates in the Federal Convention of 1787 by James Madison. A lot easier the get the information there than the way I did it from the "American Reference Library."
