What sentence is typical in IL for forging a $100 check? Is jail/prison inevitable?

I forged one of my father's checks for $100 and was arrested this week when I tried to cash it. I have been struggling financially, and was trying to pay something off--it was a one time thing and I regret it extremely. I was PR bonded because I have no money or income. I am scheduled to go to court next week and am scared shitless. I don't have money for a lawyer, so I will have a public defender. What sentence could I ask for that wouldn't result in jail or prison time????
I wanted to add that, although it is no excuse whatsoever for my actions, I quit taking my psyche meds in the days prior to the crime, which had an impact on my decision-making.
Also, forgery is a felony--not a misdemeanor...

I don't know what will happen to you but it sounds as if you realize what a stupid act this was. Hope you learn a lesson from whatever sentence you get. You could have gotten a job or a second job to earn the $ you needed rather than trying to steal it. Change your ways.

It's a misdemeanor, prob no jail time with first offense. You'll prob have to make restitution, and that will be on your ercord for at least 7 years, so from now on, when you go go court over anything else, the judge is going to have your record in front of him when you go before him.
