I am a serious amateur photographer who will be taking mostly travel pictures of people and scenery. Up till now, I have used a rinky dinky $200 point and shoot camera but as I am looking to get a degree in photography at school, I really need something much nicer. From what I have researched so far, it looks like a Nikon 40D or Canon 50D would be best. So as a serious amateur who has $1500 to spend at the most (with lenses) what should I get? Also I am looking into lenses and want a wide angle as well as one with excellent zoom. So any other suggestions you can give me would be great!
