what Road King would u buy??

Any of em !!

+ 1 one the saddlebags on the Classic.
Just don't care for em. Huge gap btwn the bike
& the bags too. I'd probl change to hard bags or some
of the "Nicer" leather bags avai out there.

Looking to trade up me-self. Like the Heritage, but the
back needs SUSPENSION !!!
I'm on my feet up to 10 hrs a day, so standing I'm fine but
the sitting posn on the Softail is hard for me (probl fine for
others) I don't care if it's an 09 or newer. 02 would be fine.
A retired Police Motor or . . .

I like having hard bags, they seem to fit more than my Dad's leather bags and it is inconvenient not being able to lock your stuff. Though I wouldn't mind getting a pair of leather ones at times either.
Any of them are fine. My Uncle has an 03, my Dad an 04, Me an 05, and my other Uncle an 07. All run good with no problems.

My Dad's is a Classic and my 2 uncles and mine are the standards. My Dad loves the cruise control where I didn't care for it much when I've ridden it before. Just find the one you like, make sure it checks out as ok and buy it.

Bang for the buck.
2002 Road King with hard bags and aluminum wheels.
Damn near bulletproof
All of the good stuff, less of the dollars.

If you feel the need to upgrade the drivetrain, you have a great platform with which to do it.

Excellent advice. A good, low mile garage queen 02 would be at the top of my list.

As far as hard bags vs leather- I've got both sets for my bike. The hard bags hold a bit more, but the leather ones will give a little if you've got something a bit oversize.

It's a lot cheaper to add leather bags to a standard than it is to add color matched hard bags to a classic.

I think the color matched hard bags have a more current look to them. Almost every custom bagger that finds its way into a magazine article has hard bags. The leather bags have a more timeless, retro look, which some folks find very appealing. Bottom line is buy the one that looks best to you. If you think you want both sets of bags, though, start with a standard and then look for a good set of leather bags.

I wanted whitewalls and spokes, so I went with a classic. I would prefer the hard bags over leather/plastic, though. I'm hoping I can score a set of black takeoffs from a parted out bike or something.
