I just got a nice big tank for my comet after getting him out of that bowl he was in. But now I'm looking to put one more fish in their with him what r good fish to keep with a gold fish?

neon glow fish they are so cool they are fresh water you can put in a (block) of food that they eat when they are hungry and the block lasts for 10 days or you can buy flake food.they are really small and cheap like less than 3.00 so you can get a bunch they glow in the dark and
they are sooo cool. they work with most every fish exept for bettas .

goldfish shouldn't be with other fish like tropical but you can put Corydoras Catfish or Upsidedown Catfish in too clean the tank othe than that just put more commen gold fish and comet goldfish (you should have a BIG tank, gold fish get big) hope this helps

No tetras, they are tropical fish. Goldfish are cold water fish, so pick out some cold water buddies. Rosey Reds (fathead minnows) are a pretty pink-peach color and are cold water fish, or just get other gold fish.

Gold fish are not beginner fish, they are messy and need much more room than most other fish, and can grow quite large (I have seen gold fish bigger than my head). I have heard it said 10 gallons per gold fish. Thats allot of space. They need a large filter too. So keep that in mind.

i used to have a shubunkin with my comet, they were best buds, but alas the shubunkin i had for years and it died of old age. now my comet is all alone in a huge tank, i have your same problem, lol

I would have to disagree with the first response.

You limit yourself to what you can have due to your tank being coldwater. There are quite a few fish that will thrive in there such as the mountain minnow.

1 comet needs a 50 gallon tank, so unless you have a 50+ gallon tank, you shouldn't add any more fish. They can grow to 12+ inches long.

-----EDIT:

Holly is totally wrong. "Neon glow fish" (which I'm assuming are neon tetra's or glow fish) should not live with goldfish. They are tropical fish and tropical fish need warm water. Goldfish are from Asia, they're coldwater fish.

-----EDIT:

Yara is wrong as well, 10 gallons is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, too small for ANY type of goldfish. 10 gallons is not a lot of space, 10 gallons is tiny.

What size tank? A Comet Goldfish needs at least a 55 gallon tank as an adult, and at least 60 gallons if you want to add other fish.

Some other coldwater fish that can go with Goldfish are White Cloud Mountain Minnows and/or Hillstream Loaches.
