What movie this was? It's a small town in Pennsylvania, the main character plays football and the movie opens with him blocking for the popular quarterback, who scores a touchdown. The main character (hereafter "mc") gets mud in the face. His dad is a drunk, and the mc has to pick him up at the pub on his motorcycle, chaining his dad to himself. He and his dad are very poor and live in a shack, the motorcycle is the only transport. The mc likes a cheerleader who is popular and stuck up. Even so, the cheerleader is still drawn to the mc. The mc several times drives up to the edge of a quarry as if to commit suicide, stopping short each time. The situation with the snooty, upper class cheerleader looks hopeless...
