what photoediting software is good for a starting photographer?

ive had my nikon SLR for a couple years now and i want to get into editing to enhance my photos, just looking for something that somewhat user friendly for a beginner. thanks!
 
Adobe Photoshop is the best, but takes a great deal of learning to do it right, and costs a lot of money.
I like Roxio 7 for simple stuff. It's easy to understand too. You should be able to get it at low cost or for free from a friend.
