What phones should I look out for?...

My contract ends in July 2007 and I was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions as to what phones to look out for. I've heard the iPhone comes out during that time... but I'm not sure I'm looking to get that. If any of you have any suggestions on phones (that are like the new Blackjack) that'd be much appreciated.

Thank you.

If it helps any of you generous suggestors, I...
-am 20 years old and in College
-am looking for an e-mail capable phone.
-am looking for a phone that plays real sound ringtones.
-don't care if it is a flip-phone or not
-am simply looking for a really cool phone with neat features on it.

Thank you all.

The Blackjack is solid phone, it would be great for your needs. I prefer it over other smallish smartphones like the Blackberry Pearl, especially since I think the Blackjack has better multimedia controls and a full keyboard. I wouldn't bother with the iPhone given your requirements...its just not worth the cost. If you like Smartphones, another cool option is the T-Mobile Dash. It would be good if your college as WiFi.

That is really the wrong way to do it. What if you pick the world's greatest phone, but it only works on NTT/DoCoMo and you live Rochester, NY? All you have is an expensive paperweight. Or you pick a Verizon phone, but you travel extensively to Europe. It won't work there.

Yep. What I'm suggesting though is that a person find phones they want...check if it works in their area and continue. Cingular is fairly good bet, which opens up almost all GSM 850 enabled phones to you. Thus, if you look at the carrier only and consider only they phones they offer (if they are GSM) this severely limits possibilities.

True. Still, I think finding the right carrier is more important, especially for someone who isn't aware of the differences between them. Many people think that a cell will work anywhere with any carrier.
