Hello! I have cingular and live in the SF bay and am overwhelmed with phone choices! I haven't had the time to clearly read and research the curent technologies and trends so please bear with me!

Let's see if we can make this simple, price is not an object, but i'd like to compare similar phones across the range of prices.

what really matters to me:

reception/call quality
battery life
high quality mp3 player, (are there phoens where i can plug in a standard 3.5mm headphone jack WITHOUT an adapter?)
email, easy full page web browsing

I don't quite get the differences between smart phones, PDA's, PPC's, yet, they all seem to offer the same thing other than touch sensitivity......

thanks to all who help!!

thanks! yeah i was looking at the phone, but can u go online? also, i may be needing business solutions such as word excel files in the near future, but just becuase i have cingular, doesn't mean i am stuck with cingular phones right? i can get any gsm phone after unlocking?

thanks! my buddy has that phone, its not bad, but i find it lacking...... another of my friends just got a blackberry pearl and i am going to check it out tomorrow, hope its better

Pick the carrier that best suites where you will use the phone. Then you can decide on the phone. Not the other way around.

I'm on Cingular in the Seattle Area. I just got a Nokia N73, unlocked off e-bay.

I have a 1 GB miniSD card in it for MP3s, pics, documents, etc.

The phone has a 3.2 MP cameral with AF, flash, and Zeiss lens. It has built in photo editing software.

It plays videos with Real Player, MP3's with a version of Windows Media, I believe.

It will read Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Adobe documents out of the box.

Reception has been stellar, and battery life is excellent. Paired with the Nokia BH-600 BT headset, it works great in the car. It connects to my computer via bluetooth just by walking within 30 feet of it!

The Nokia PC Suite works great, and syncing is awesome.

One word about SE phones - their sync software doesn't work! It won't connect with their own dang phones! My wife has the W710i, and I had to go find a 3rd party app for syncing.

I don't think you can go wrong with an N73.

PM me if you want my e-bay seller. He was great and even had Cingular's Web, SMS, MMS settings installed before he shipped it.

Ok, well i checked out my friend's blackberry and thought it was pretty nice. however not for my taste. is that how most phones browse the internet? i checked a couple of pages, and they seemed to be simplified versions of the web pages, and he has T Mobile, and even though it wasnt that slow, sometimes the pages wouldn't even load (i waited almost 10 minutes and map quest never loaded) and is the blackberry's main advantage mainly its RIM email? but if i just use regular internet mail, and outlook once in a while, then i dont need a blackberry do i?

how does internet browsing work on the w810i and nokia phones?

my suggestion is any of the sony ericsoon walkman mp3 phones, great reception even greater mp3 player with all the extra gear included, I demo these phones, as well as others and love them

internet not much of a problem on w810, but dont be expecting anyfing great...its not a smart phone! if you want internet browsing look at nokia n73 or any of the nseries. And yes internet browsing on phones are usually simplified versions on mobile plus they do sumtimes take ages to load, if you want fast internet get a 3g phone
