What Phone Should I Get? (Sorry About The Clich

I'm going on vacation really really really really soon and I need a super super super cheap phone that'll work in Europe. (GSM 1800 i think)

So my clich?d question is "what phone should I get?" I live in Canada and need to be able to get it soon.

Secondly, what European carrier would you recommend for pay as you go (eg voda, o2, orange)?

For a carrier, I would suggest Vodafone if only because everyone I know from Europe used it with positive results (except a couple of Germans) before they came to China (where I live now) but they're all teenagers (friends in an international school I go to in Shanghai) so it might not be suited for what you're doing (say, calling a lot as opposed to texting and e-mailing a lot). Also, if you're traveling to other countries in Europe (you mentioned Vodafone, O2, and Orange in that combination- you are going to the UK, right?), particularly Germany, T-Mobile would be better (at least from what I hear from the people I know who have used it).
This is all second-hand advice, so take it with a grain of salt, but it helped me a lot on my trip there.
