Hi guys,

Key Wants
Feel free to skip to the end after this section:
*
  • I talk about 450 minutes/month
  • I use wap internet a decent amount
  • I use the calendar and to-do list feature
  • For web page readability prefer resolution above 176 x 220
  • I do very little text/picture/video messaging
  • I don't care about taking pictures or listening to music
  • I would prefer not to have a QWERTY keyboard visible all the time (fold-away okay)
  • I don't want to spend more than $100 after discount from getting 2-year contract, don't want a contract more than $50/mo (Probably buying from Amazon)

    My Story
I've been out of the country for a while and am currently using a 5-year-old Samsung phone with Cingular out of contract.

I am thinking about switching to T-Mobile because for the $39.99 I am paying to get 450 minutes with Cingular, I could get 600 minutes with T-Mobile.

Not only that, I want to browse the interweb. Mostly, I will use it to browse oa.yahoo.com but may also just surf all sorts of randomness...like HoFo! Cingular's unlimited internet is $19.99 while T-mobile's is only $5.99! (Verizon has something called Mobile Web 2.0 for just $5 but I don't think you can access the entire internet. Can you?)

    Front-runners:
Nokia 6133 (+Big screen +no data plan required -Standard keypad -not smart)
Blackberry 8100 Pearl (+Blackberry functionality -Not full QWERTY -$30 data plan required)
T-Mobile MDA (+Full QWERTY -$30 data plan required -$100 with contract)

Hmmm...At Amazon it's -$75 but you're forced into getting the $29.99 data/wifi plan rather than just the $5.99 t-zones...for the first seven months of the two-year contract

So $24 extra per month for 7 months = $168 - $75 rebate = $93 for wifi for 7 months...

But what's special about the SDA?

600 minutes a month for $39.99! I say take it knowing that there will be an additional $10 a month in fees tacked on to it (true of any contract cell provider). Fees and all that comes to about eight cents a minute (remember, the full cost is about $49.99 with fees). If you get unlimited nights and weekends, you can probably get rid of the long distance plan at home and use the cell instead, saving even more money. $5.99 for unlimited internet is a good deal, too! Enjoy your new cell phone.

Cingular, T-Mobile, and Verizon all have very good coverage where I live (Central Texas), where I travel (big city, California), and where I'll live next (NYC)

What's drawing me to T-Mobile among the three is the number of minutes I'll get for $39.99 (600 to Cingular, Verizon's 450) and the price for unlimited data ($5.99 to Verizon's $15 and Cingular's $20)

I'd say get a sda of ebay take it to your local tmobile ,get it connected with a plan.. Plus the data, use the wifi at places you can.

Besides not being stuck in a contract, what advantage would I have from getting it off of Ebay rather than Amazon/Wirefly?

I only ask because the difference in price between the two is about $200
