Another feature that could be observed is the change in state in matter. Water can freeze with temperature, ore can melt with heat from within the planet's skin. Magnetic fields are due to elements within the crust of a planet. Sometimes the magnetic fields fluctuate.
I suspect that other planet's features resemble the processes on earth it's just that the chemistry is different. For example, earth's atmosphere - is part nitrogen and some oxygen, mars is mostly carbon dioxide
To control these kinds of features you need to be an adequate planet tera-former. My advice would be to somehow transform local materials into other materials that would change the temperature, and gas state that is near the surface. Invest in a new biology that can be sustained in the new atmosphere. This would create a new nature, that self regulates and grows a new existence
