what other fish can live with betta fish?

hmmm with a male you are limited bc they have agressive terrortory issues. i do know that in larger aquariums males can be mixed with larger community fish including mollies platies and swordtails...........just depends. try snails, corycats, and plecos. slowly try to introduce more and more species. if their is agression then seperate.
 
That depends on the temperament of your Betta. Some Bettas are gentle, but most are not.

Even male and female Bettas fight, so be careful.

Platys, mollies, and African Dwarf Frogs *can* be added to a 10 gallon (minimum) Betta tank, but I prefer to keep my six Bettas in their own bowls and tanks (1 female in 1/2 gal fishbowl, 1male and1 female in a divided 2 gallon bowl, 1 male in a 5 gallon, 1 male in a 3 gallon, and 1 male in a baby biorb with water table down to just above the filter output).
 
They get pretty stressed out in tanks with other fish, or bigger tanks. But you can usually stick a female in with a male and be ok.
 
Any peaceful fish that does not have long flowy fins is a good candidate for living with a Betta. Gouramis should not be kept with Bettas, as they are closely related and will fight.
Really, it's harder to find a fish that won't pick on the Betta than vice versa.
Of course, it also depends on what size your tank is.
