My friend is an amazing artist. She's simply unbelievable. Her dream is to go to RISD (and I seriously believe she could get in... so do her art teachers), but her dad is manipulative and controlling. He refuses to let her go into such a field, even though it's really where she belongs. Even though she's entering her senior year she's never been on a college tour because her dad won't let her go on one (her parents are divorced and her mom has almost no money). I'm hoping that if I find some regular universities or colleges with great art programs, she'll be able to go to one of those and PERHAPS her dad will be ok with it. She gets good grades (probably a 3.7/4.0 GPA) in mostly honors classes and would like to stay in the Northeast.
Things would work out better if she could just apply under her mom's name (her mom understands that she belongs in art school and would get loads of financial aid), but her primary residence is with her dad.
She's really running out of time. I feel horrible because this girl can NOT spend the rest of her life working in an office.
