What network does Cricket piggy back on?

Baltimore, Washington DC, Seattle, New Orleans, among others. They have an arabitious plan to double its 2007 POP's by the end of 2010. They are off to a good start for 2009. I don't see them stopping anytime soon.

However I am not sure about surpassing Metro, which plans to heavily expand in an area with over 50 million people in the northeast. They also plan to expand on their Southern California market, as this is also a heavily populated area.

But if they do surpass Metro I hope Leap buys out Metro.
 
Cricket runs and maintains their own network. They also have Unlimited roaming agreements with MetroPCS and around 16 other regional partners to provide service for their customers in additional markets.

In areas where they do not provide service, Cricket customers can roam on Verizon (with Unlimited text messaging and a variable amount of minutes) as long as they are on the appropriate rate plan. Cricket's $50 rate plan for instance gives you 30 minutes of roaming on Verizon per month. Their $60 plan offers 200 minutes of Nationwide roaming.

Most of the largest markets in the US though are well covered by the Cricket/MetroPCS corabination.

Cricket can roam on Verizon because it's CDMA and so is Cricket. Sprint is also CDMA, AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM. Cricket can roam on MetroPCS because Leap Wireless, the company that owns Cricket, also owns MetroPCS.
 
i don't see either company 'buying' the other in the foreseeable future without SIGNIFICANT outside help. Neither one is that much bigger than the other to leverage a buyout, and neither will be in the foreseeable future.

It's not just me saying this. but if you haven't heard it elsewhere you can give me the credit for the prediction LOL. Leap will pass metro in # of subs by the end of 2010.

I thought a couple years ago MetroPCS offered $5.9 billion for Cricket. And that Cricket turned away that MetroPCS offer. When was the buyout? And if so why don't they link networks?
 
I really think both should kindly merge. They don't really need to purchase one or the other do they? Can't they just, simply, merge? If they merge they will be bigger and can continue to try to compete with the other carriers. I think if the two of them can work together MANY will switch carriers. Then the major ones will need to figure out something to keep customers.
 
I agree, a merger would be in the best interests of both parties. Corabined they would be a major player, the largest no-contract entity in the country. They could easily overtake U.S. Cellular as the sixth largest carrier, maybe even take the fifth largest spot over Tracfone. (Seriously, Tracfone is the 5th largest carrier? C'mon...)

Leap owns Cricket.

Sprint owns Boost.

Both own their own entire networks and are not an MVNO.
