What movies suprised you?

Moulin Rouge - I did not expect to cry in this movie.. but I did. This movie isn't just some sappy love story, which surprised me. The music wasn't too opera-y but modern, which surprised me as well. Everything I expected from this movie was the contrary to what I think about it now. I have a whole new look on musicals after watching this.

Haha as soon as I saw this thread, I immediately thought about my bf as you mentioned dragging me to see this movie and like you I thought it was great and yeah the 'laughing like a child' thing happened too :)

Thats like ONE good movie that I have seen that he has made me watch with him ;)

Lost in Translation and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I knew what they were about, I knew I was going to like them but I didn't expect them to be so original and interesting.

The Incredibiles
I had so few expectations from this movie (mainly because I was dragged to see it by my bf) and I ended up loving it and laughing like a child.

taovande: Yeah, I didn't get the book... but I was assuming that it was books fault cuz the script was made from it...
And I'm 23 but I looove so many other teen shows and movies... ;)

Casino Royale (in a good way) - My father kept saying he wanted to see it before it went out and I was like 'OK'. He kept saying he would take me that he wanted to see the next James Bond and he was all excited and talking about it all the time. One day when the movie was alreadu out he invited us to go and I was like 'Oh, well...one more to my list ' but turns out I LOVED the movie. I saw it 3 times on the movies  and I'm looking forward to the next one

Transformers suprised me, alot. I thought it would be rubbish, partly because i don't like action/comic book orientated etc movies. I loved it, the special effects were amazingggg.

The Mummy - My friends and I wanted to go and see something and it was either this or The Matrix. Thank God we chose The Mummy. I liked it unlike The Matrix which we rented later on and it sucked!

The Ring - My sister and I went to see it cos we wanted to see something really scary. Only we didn't know it would be that scary. My sister kept saying: "Let's leave" all the time cos she was so scared.

The Sixth Sense - Wow, it was so good! It was the scariest movie I had seen so far and the ending - I sooo didn't see it coming! Plus Haley Joel Osment is incredibly talented and such a cutie! :D

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - I didn't have any kind of expectations when I went to see it. I wasn't (and still am not) very interested in fantasy and my main reason to see it was Elijah Wood, I though he looked kinda cute. But the movie blew my mind and heart away and now the whole trilogy is my alltime favourite, I treasure them! :D

Spiderman 2 - I liked the first movie a lot and I thought this would be quite good too, but I wasn't expecting too much cos you know, usually the sequel isn't as good as the first one. Well, I was really surprised cos this one was soooo much better than the first one. Simply a brilliant film! :)

Alexander - It was the only interesting film in the theatre that day so my sister and I went to see it. I actually ended up being impressed by it, I thought it was wonderful and for instance Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie gave excellent performances. I don't care about the bad reviews it has had, I think it's the best post-LOTR historical spectacle (better than Troy or King Arthur for example).

Freaky Friday- My mum bought the video so I watched it with her and I liked it. It was very entertaining and I liked especially Jamie Lee Curtis's performance.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - We were expecting a lot from this movie when we went to see it. We had seen the trailer which looked interesting and I usually like this type of adventure films plus it had Sean Connery. But it SUCKED big time! It had the most stupid plot ever (if it even had a plot) and the special effects weren't good enough to be the excuse of making this piece of crap. Definitely in my Top 3 Worst Movies... :pout:

The other night I watched Far From Heaven on IFC and I was surprised how good of a movie it was. I was completely surprised by the performances and story.

Reqiuem for a dream just the ending is amazing, it shows that not all movies end in happiness.

Saw2 Oh shawnee.. i remember you when you were on becker... Her acting really suprised me, she was so cool.

Million Dollar Hotel just a really weird, freaky, spaced out movie that actually does exist.

Miss: The plot holes were probably a mix of both. I've read the book and HATED it....refuse to watch the movie because the book was so contrived and I felt like I was too old to be reading it (I'm 26)

The Departed ending had everyone gasping in the theater. It was so funny! Leo got the loudest gasp, I thought people would start crying!

i rented Hairspray today and i just got done watching it and i have to say i was surprised how much i liked it. i originally wanted to watch it for zac efron but i ended up loving the movie and seeing him in it!

i also rented Lucky Number Slevin today and i originally rented it because of my new crush on josh hartnett but i was surprised that i liked it so much. josh was real good in it!!

The one that most comes to mind is Mean Girls.
I was expectng the same old cliche but it really wasn't like that at all. It had something good to fall back on, so I liked it.
And Swimming Pool. I didn't really know much about the concept when I had bought it but it was a Focus Features film so I wanted to see it. And watching the movie the movie kept getting a bit more surprising w/ the character Julie and watching this strange relationship build between her and the writer. But at the end was what extremely fascinated me and I was truly caught by surprise!

Last movie I thought would be terrible but wasn't that bad was Twilight.
I was totally irritated by all the fuss around that movie so I refused to watch it.
'till last weekend! Now all the fuss is around New moon so, that's better :P One friend saw it and I've seen Paramore - Decode song video & I changed my mind...

+:
There were some interesting and cool scenes, like - the kiss scene up in her room, some humorous quotes and I like action scene - them playing baseball :D
Scenes of surrounding nature were also pretty.
Most actors were not that bad even though they r young.

-:
Plot was not exactly... without holes... Most twists were simple, naive and predictable. But I guess that's books fault.
Or I'm just too old for it.

Harry Potter - I've only seen the first one and I never read the books and I thought all the hype was lame but then when I saw it, I was suprised that I liked it. It was funny and had some cool action scenes and it kept my interest.
