cody r doesnt have a clue about the Navy if he thinks that Navy spends the least time away from home.
Navy: Deployed from home for an average of 6 months out of every year and a half.
But for that year back, you are actually gone most of that too in workups and training for your next 6 months deployment. It may only be training, you may only be just off the coast, but when you are out to sea, it doesnt matter if you are 40 miles or 4000 miles away. you are gone.
About the only time you are actually HOME most of the time will be the several months of Yardwork upkeep following a return from deployment (And thats only if your shipyard is the same as your homeport).
I got married right after bootcamp, we were married for 4 years, We were only actualy together for maybe a year and a half.
So... all in all Navy is the one branch thats gone the MOST
sorry cody r, but true.
But right now we're in a shooting war in two theaters of operation, Iraq and Afghanistan.
That means ground forces (and USAF operating from forward bases) are deployed and their deployments are for a greater length than 6 months. So really its a toss up as to who is home the most of all those you mentioned.
But there is one you DID NOT mention and thats the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard does have a presence overseas in the combat region (patrolling the harbors where our ships dock in the Persian Gulf, Bahrain for example) but these are smaller detachments. not whole units.
For the most part, Coast Guard stay right here at home.
BUT, Just like the Navy when it is technically "home", even just off the coast might as well be the other side of the world.
Thanks for wanting to serve. but as to getting to stay home the most, You roll the dice and you take your chance.
Also, if staying home is the primary criteria for who you join.... perhaps you are joining for the wrong reasons and probably should look more into a career of flipping burgers.
