What makes our western culture the best in the world?

The reason I said Western culture because Europe and America have done a great job in modernizing the world and we are doing a great job.

I am a Greek American. I take pride in our culture, do you? Isn't our culture one the main reason behind our progress? Our culture teaches us to be self-reliant and progressive. Of course we do have some dysfunctional families but overall, the educated people in our culture do a great job in bringing up children despite of not having much time because of work.
 
I've been thinking a lot of "western" and "eastern" culture/society/people/mentalities (etc). I think they each have pros and cons. I was born, raised and have only lived within America but I'm not so closed minded that I automatically shun anything not of the "west".
