What MAKES a good film for you?

I don't know if there is already a thread on this but sure, start fresh.

For me it's the acting, I would take acting anyday over CGI and stunts or fight scenes. I guess for the acting to be good the story has to be good.

So what is the most important thing to you that makes a film good?

Agree about acting, if it's unbearable I'll cringe my way through it, or worse turn it off.

It also neeRAB good pacing and not be too predictable for it to stand out. A good music score can be added to this, aswell.

It's a realisation at the end of a film that I liked it. Nothing more than that. No particular set of circumstances dictate this, Trying to come up with any hard and fast rules as to why never results in any satisfactory answers.

No hard or fast rule for me, I enjoy all sorts of films, from independent, dialogue-driven movies to ridiculous CGI blockbusters like Transformers, I'll watch most of them. I don't have any snobbery.

However, the one hard and fast rule for me is this - the film has to be realistic WITHIN THE CONFINES OF IT'S SETTING. So, for example, that means if a film is set in the real world, I don't want to see ridiculous stunts that quite literally defy the laws of physics. Charlies Angels 2 and Die Hard 4, I'm looking at you...

It's hard for me to say as my fave films are all so different. I cannot find a common theme in 'Jaws', 'The Notebook', 'Hotel Rwanda', 'The Wizard of Oz', '13 going on 30' (yes really!) which would all feature in my top ten ! Perhaps it's the actors/actresses - i love Rob Schneider, Rachel McAdams is captivating, Don Cheadle is one of my favourite actors of all time, Judy Garland is legendary & despite what some movie snobs might say i really love Jennifer Garner as an actress and think Mark Ruffalo is very underrated.

All i want is a good cast, a decent script. That makes a good film. If special effects are needed then use them, only if it's needed though.
