I want to major in a field like physics because I love math and science, but I also want my career to allow me to use what I know and create useful things with it. For example, I'm interested in spaceflight (faster and more efficient propulsion systems) and also energy (power, like fusion), but I don't want to be an aerospace or nuclear engineer because I don't want to use existing tech but rather invent new techs. However, I think that if I become a physicist I'll spend my days pondering on the birth of the universe instead of creating theories and conducting research that I can later apply to useful technological inventions or innovations. I would like to know if I can combine my interest in learning pure science and math with my interest for developing new technologies or ideas.
Oh, and I also hope to one day start a high-technology business (maybe involving energy and/or spaceflight).
