What made you like Metal music?

The Power of the Sound of it. Nothing else sounded so Big, Bad, Tough, and Aggressive. that sound was the King of the Jungle and would Beat Down anything else around:band:

This baby right here:

Um, Led Zeppelin for every reason that I'm sure was already said. Judas Priest for taking it five steps further. Iron Maiden for giving it darkness, Black Sabbath for opening up the metal minRAB.

Yeah as much as I hate to admit, Metallica played a large role in me getting into metal. Also 'Back in Black' was the first album I ever owned.

Opeth is great. They really got me into black/scandinavian metal type stuff. It's kind of like a gateway things. Blackwater Park was the first album I heard of their's.

First album I heard too. I have a good friend who hates the contrast of their music but for me that's why i like them. I like lot's of different shades in a lot of my music.

Something in the music just resonated with me. There were times when I could swear my heart was beating in sync with the double bass drum of Death and Deicide. In my younger days (12-13) I was huge into the "Big 4" (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax) as well as the more popular newer metal banRAB like Slipknot, System of a Down, and Avenged Seven Fold. When I was 16 I kind of had a bit of a falling out with metal as I quickly jumped on the alternative rock bandwagon where I stayed til I was about 18, then I started getting back into the more extreme metals and paid little to no attention to the mainstream music. A lot of my music was coming from interent forums and my older frienRAB who were always into the underground extreme stuff.

The thing I find most fascinating about metal is that it and hip hop are the two most prevalent genres of music you'll find throughout the world. If anyone has seen the documentaries "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" or its' predecessor "Global Metal" will agree with this.

Yeah, I don't necessarily agree with that. I was a fan of Watershed from day one. But I can see why it would throw some people off. I was pretty stoked to find out that Opeth was doing some blast beats now.

Opeth is still a favourite band of mine, even though I don't really listen to metal nowadays. Sadly enough I wasn't old enough to see them when they came to NZ (I was a few days short of 18). Martin Mendez is one of my bassist idols.

I second the Agalloch recommendation. That was my study music back in high school. :)

I started with Pale Folklore but I think that the Mantle would perhaps be the best to start out with.

You nitpicking bastard. :yikes:

Well theirs an expected over/under margin of error included in that for special cases like yourself.
