What made you like Metal music?

It may have been my Dad playing Sabbath on the drive back from the airport, or it may have been my friend Carter blasting Morbid Angel in his room. I will never know really, but wherever it started I'm hooked and happy to be so.

Spending countless hours in junior high hanging out in frienRAB' basements listening to the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Sacred Reich, Mercyful Fate, Death and Obituary just kind of sold me on it after a while.

What person under 30 hasn't spent hours loving Metallica? Although the band merabers....ehhh not so much. Noone has mentioned the classics yet that everyones heard. For instance the most baddass metal band that has a lead flute, Jethrotull.

Very true, Two Hunters is still one of my favorites.

Blut Aus Nord, Borknagar, and Malevolent Creation are also worthy mentions.

Thats not so bad then, I was into them around 98' 99' timeframe. Same time the Napster cry baby fest went down, I also though S&M was a good album. I had issues.

My family generally frowned upon metal when i was young.. so i was stuck listening to casettes of beach boys... my dad hid the kiss cassettes.. :(

I'd have to say my first metal experience, and took a liking to it was the green jelly soundtrack off of the spider man/venom (snes) game.

early in high school years, our gym teacher worshipped ac/dc.
so we got to hear plenty ov it. f'in awesome.

a year ago or so i came across metalocalypse. yeah that took my appreciation to a whole new level. best metal cartoon of all time.

as my musical horizons are broadening, im experimenting with progressively heavier stuff.

When I was 13 or 14, I discovered the strange world of Acid Bath. Then came Slayer. Both of whom I rarely listen to anymore, but I still enjoy the metal of today like Gojira, Opeth, BTBAM, Type of Negative, Dream Theater, Cradle and so on.

It has to be Metallica for me, they were the first metal band I ever really properly got in to. Back at high school a guy gave me a custom made compilation of Metallica songs, i think Carpie Diem Baby & Fuel were amongst them. Now I am into a hell of a lot more metal and obviously dont think Metallica are the best although I thought their 'Death Magnetic' album was absolutely crackin. I have since ventured into the genres of Folk Metal (Ulver,Finntroll), Black Metal (Mayhem), even goregrind/core (Carcass), also Thrash obviously likes of Slayer, Anthrax, etc.
Sorry this looks as though im a total amateur when it comes to metal but believe me im a big fan, im just really tired and cant think/remeber all the banRAB im into (also havent been listening to alot of metal recentley anyway so thats probably why!), oh I love Iron Maiden, and think that Black Sabbath's best singer was Ronnie James Dio and the best album Ive ever heard from them is 1992's 'Dehumanizer'; that track 'Computer God' is probably my favourite metal track (although I dont like to put a label on things like that) and it has the best drum intro to a metal song Ive ever heard in my life (and one of the best solos at the end). Anyway Im actually more into Jazz at the moment so Il probably be vacating the Jazz section alot. Suppose there wont be many people who are into Metal & Jazz although I am one of them so if you are out there you are not alone!

I remeraber the first time i listened to Slayer. I bought Reign In Blood and when i brought it home and listened to it i thought it was the most evil and sinister sounding thing i'd ever heard. I was already into Metallica and Maiden but it was this moment that i'd felt i'd pushed my musical boundries and crossed the line into extreme metal. I felt totally rebellious :D

the intensity of it, plus the riRAB and technicality alot of the banRAB possesed. plus the only other music i could find where i lived was spanish music and and hip hop
