..."Do not think I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." Matthew 5:17-20

What laws was he talking about? The ten commandments?

Yes, He was speaking of the Ten Commandments and all the law of Moses, His life and work was not to abolish them, but to fulfill them. Once completed, it was His death and sacrifice that abolished them, all of it, Ten Commandments included. Thanks for asking.

Not just the Ten Commandments, but all the old covenant laws. This includes the whole eating shellfish thing, and all the laws that God gave to Israel in the Old covenant. Jesus 'fulfilled' these laws and established the new covenant which we live under today.

Jesus did not change the law, the ten commandments. Some try to say we are not under the law, but any civil groups of peoples weather they believe in God and the ten commandments usually have the same similar laws on their books,...not to steal, not to kill... We are under the law along with other laws . statutes and oridances that men make. Jesus said not to change one jot, not one letter of His written Word,..and Jesus did not do away with or change the law. Jesus came to fulfill by adding that we are to love thy neighbor as thyself and to keep this law at the top of the list. If you love your neighbor as you do yourself then you wouldn't be breaking any of the other laws. Keep the commandment of love, the fulfillment, and you wouldn't steal, or commit adultery, or murder....

About the Messiah, I think?
And how He was suppose to die on the cross?
I don't know.

The Ten Commandments are a portion of a larger set of Commandments that God gave called Torah. Torah was the system of law that God gave to the Jews at Sinai. There were civil laws and ceremonial laws, and laws given only to the priests. I have only just begun in the last several weeks to study Torah, but one thing I have learned is that our English words Commandment and Law do not have as deep a meaning as the Hebrew words Mitzvah and Torah. Nor do Mitzvah or Torah have the same negative connotations that Commandment and Law have. I don't know enough yet to explain that in detail, but do plan to continue studying Torah, and learning to observe all that is written there as I now believe Jesus wanted me to.
