what kinds of fish can live with my goldfish?

I have a goldfish named Simon, and he lives in a bowl. His bowl is really gross and discusting about two days after I change it evertime, I wanted to get a tank for a while so I fugured now is the time. I bought a ten gallon today, and I'm in the process of filling it up. My little sister wants a fish too so I said she can pick one or two out. I know everyone says only one fish per ten gallons or five gallons but I think I'm going to have three in it. I just want to know what can live in the tank. I know their water isn't good for some less hardy fish so I was just wondering about other types of goldfish. Would fancy goldfish be alright?

Also, I read all sorts of stuff about how to get your tank ready a few months ago and I definatly decided im not going to kill some fish in order to get the ph right, as it said to do. But I think for a gold fish the water should be fine right? I mean, its ok in the bowl without doing anything first. Other than the conditioner and bacteria stuff anyways. So if i put those in he should be set to go right? Should i let it run maybe a day or two first though before putting him in? and I'll let him get used to the new home before adding fish. Thanks, all tips are welcome!!
Thanks guys. I have a comet so I guess I'll stick with comets then, by the sounds of it. I really would like at least one more though. two would be all right wouldn't they?
Just another quick question, If you don't have to cycle a bowl ( I know they shouldn't be in one anyways) then why the tank?
