What kind of workout routine is best for dumbbell and cardiac exercise?

I read online that we should rest every other day between weightlifting workouts, so I'm thinking about this plan:
Mon- dumbbell workout, then cardiac (running)
Tues- just cardiac
Wed- workout, then cardiac
Thurs- just cardiac
Fri- workout, then cardiac
Sat + Sun- just cardiac
Would this be a good plan or is too much? What kind of plan would you advise?
How long should I wait between the workout and running? A few min?
