What kind of Tv to buy?

Im looking to buy a 20 - 24 inch tv. Now, should I buy an LCD or LED-LCD tv? is there much of a difference? also, I want one with 1080p for gaming. I heard that buying a tv with 1080p under 24inches is a waste though, is this true?
