What kind of gasoline is ideal for the Pontiac Solstice?

I would assume that being this is a sports car it has a high performance engine. Thus, yes it probably requires a higher octane gasoline. The best way to find out, is to look at the owner's manual. It will tell you there exactly what you need to use. If the owner's manual is unavailable call your local dealer. They will either have the answer, or will have access to an owner's manual. In response to other answers, lower octane gas will have negative effects on your engine if it calls for higher octane gas. High performance engines have higher compression ratios, and therefore needs a fuel that can withstand the higher pressure without igniting prematurely from this higher pressure.

1. Hey comboy. . .the 87 or 89 you're referring to is an octane rating, not a %, so your answer should be ignored
2. I love this question because I've wondered about it myself many times. I have owned a 5.0 T-Bird, a V8 Mustang, 3 small trucks and a full size truck over the last few years. I've NEVER seen an owner's manual state that higher octane fuel will do anything to benifit any of these vehicles. They usually don't even mention higher-octane fuel and simply recommend 87.
3. I have a bass boat with a 150HP outboard and every dock on every lake in the midwest carries only 89 octane or higher at their pumps. This always ticks me off because I fill my boat with 87 before putting in in the water and never notice any difference in economy or performance between 87 or 89 or even the 91 that some marinas force you to buy.
