what kind of fish tank should i get?

It's usually better to pick what fish you want THEN get the proper tank size to support them. As for fish that do well in 10g tanks, they are mostly schoolers that need atleast 5 fish. If you only get 5 fish then you should be fairly understocked and have a nice tank, so don't worry about any extras.

Some nice schooling fish!
Tetras (Neon, Cardinal, Lemon)
White Cloud Minnows
Cherry Barbs
Zebra Danios (I'm getting 5 today for my own 10g tank!)

Also you can go with shrimp or frogs, just be very careful if you pick frogs as they are mislabeled on occasion. One type stays small and is appropriate for a 10g tank and the other needs a 20g for itself and get's pretty huge. I'll include some links if you want to look into these things.

Goldfish need 20-30+ gallons. They're more of a pond fish rather than a tank fish. Research the fish you want before you get them. For a 10 gallon, here's what I suggest:
1 male dwarf gourami
3 male fancy guppies
2 african dwarf frogs

All very inexpensive fish and nice to look at :) Make sure you research their heating requirements, environment, feeding, and etc. The frogs will need lots of places to hide, as they can be rather shy. The temp for these fish should be about 79* fahrenheight. I'd also highly suggest that you get live plants instead of fake. They look much nicer and keep the water healthier. Small ones are $4.50 at petco and all sizes are $5 at petsmart. I'd also suggest using black sand or gravel as a substrate. Most people don't think to use black, but it makes your tank look absolutely amazing. You should also go with a plain blue or black background as well.
