What kind of fish should I pair my male betta with?

I have a beautiful male crown tail Betta, and he lives alone in a 10 gallon tank [what can I say, I like to spoil my fish.] I was considering getting some fancy guppies, seeing as how the tank is rather empty besides some of the plants. So any suggestions on what fish to get?
 
In a ten gallon you can't fit too many fish so I would say maybe some swordfish or goldfish. Zebra danios might be a good match too.
 
Betta's are fighting fish. I wouldn't suggest pairing him with any other fish. Especially another betta

I did used to have a Betta tank though. It has a divider down the middle so I had two fish, one on each side. And still, every now & then they would try to bang the divider to try and fight each other.
