what kind of fish should i have as a pet?

I think you should get a betta fish they don't require a lot of maintenance and they come in many different colors and they look beautiful...
but before buying anything do some research about whatever fish you want to buy

an easy fish would be a aggressive cichlids, knifefish(ghost), kissing gouramis, climbing perch, gouramis. these are pretty easy to keep. the cichlids are the most fun fish to keep. they will interact with u. they will follow ur finger and be trained to eat from ur hand. but most should be kept alone or as a pair. and do u mean a maximum sized goldfish or a small goldfish? i thinking about the big goldfish.

well, there are different types of goldfish, none stay small. the smallest gets 6" to 10"

your best bet if you're looking for a small easy fish is a betta. you'll need a heated and filtered 2.5gallon or larger tank. you'll need to change 25% of the water once a week. you'll need to feed it everyday and skip one day a week.
