What kind of fish should I get? A goldfish, or a beta?

I have had both before,
I just wanted opinions on which is better.
I know betas are easier to take care of, but goldfish are definitely cuter. =)
 
A gold fish! there is a lot of different types and you can have more than one! beta fish kill each other.
 
i would get a beta. we have had both too and the betas live for much longer. ours have lived up to 2 years.
 
Get a beta! I had one for about two years before it died. The chances of that fish living longer are much greater. They are pretty low maintenance as well.
 
I would say they are basically equally easy to take care of. I think betas look very pretty, but their fins will start to look all ripped up and stuff. If you want a cute fish, i would get a pink or blue goldfish :)
 
I'm not here to give my opinion on which fish to choose, but I will tell you that you need to have the proper care and devotion for a fish.

Before you get the fish, you will need to cycle the tank for 3-6 weeks. The Nitrogen Cycle is extremely important when it comes to owning fish and keeping them healthy and happy. You will need liquid test kits for Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate to monitor those levels during this process.

A Betta needs at least a 2.5 gallon tank (preferably larger) with a soft filter and a heater. There is no exceptions with bowls or anything smaller. In fact, a Betta would love the space in a tank larger than 2.5, but as I said, that is the smallest you can go. It's always best to buy the largest tank you can afford and the bigger the better.

Goldfish require a different set-up. One fantailed variety of Goldfish needs a 20 gallon tank with double filtration. If you are wanting more than one, you add on 10 gallons for every additional fish. They are big poopers so having double filtration is essential to keep the water clean.

Which ever fish you decide, just make sure you give it the care it's supposed to have.
 
betta are much cleaner! goldfish poop alot and you probaly have to clean it like once a week! my betta has benn living for 3 years! :D and still alive!so get a betta plus goldfish may need a filter
 
Depends on your tank size. NO BOWLS. Goldfish need 20+ gallons with a filter. Bettas do fine in 2 gallons with a heater and filter.
 
It really depends on how much time, money and space you have to devote to the fish. They are two very different fish, with very different needs.

A single fancy goldfish requires 20 gallons, and double the filtration. They are fairly large (6-8 inches) and produce more waste in comparison to other fish. A larger tank is necessary if you want more than one.

A single male betta would do well in a heated, filtered, five gallon tank. They are tropical and their temperature should be maintained between 77F-82F.
 
Actually I think if you want one that lives long than get a gold fish because i have had one for over 6 years now he was my aunts when she had our house before us and his name is fatso hes like 4 inches long HE'S SO CUTE I MEAN YOU HAVE TO LOVE ORANGE!!!
 
Its a matter of taste.
If you already think goldfish are cute you should get them.
I would bet a beta though.

One thing... do not get a bowl for either. If you get a beta please get a tank that is at least 5gal. If you get a goldfish please get a larger tank. 20gal and above. They grow pretty large.
 
well what size tank are you getting?
if it is smaller then a 20 gallon, get a betta.
goldies get HUGE!
I have an oranda in a 20 gallon that I got when she was 2 inches, 6 months later she is 4 inches.
I do own both though, both are pretty
