What kind of fish do I have and why is he not being very responsive?

I bought this fish at Walmart but there weren't any signs telling what kind it was. I have it in a fishbowl, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's the kind of fish that should be in one. The following link is a picture of it:

Any help?

Thats a convict cichlids. The reason he is not responsive is because its in a bowl. It needs at least a 15-20 gallon tank. Take it back or get a bigger aquarium.

Hope this helps!!

Edit: You do not need to research for a month like Bizz said. Providing you do a good job researching, a hour or 2 or 3 should be fine. Of course if you get very interested in the subject, you may end up researching for a month.

looks like a chiclid or jack dempsey. You need to get him in at least a 10 gallon with a filter, pump and heater...otherwise he will die. This is a ver aggressive fish and can only be kept with other fish like him.

I can tell you right now that NO fish belongs in a bowl. What you have is a African cichlid which needs a large aquarium about 30-50 gallons. If you can't afford a aquarium return the fish, he will suffocate in that bowl. He needs a filter, heater, and air pump to keep him alive. Fish are not as cheap as everyone assumes them to be. Most tanks cost over $100 to setup.

BOWLS ARE FOR SOUP! I think that is either a chichild or an oscar, but i am not an expert on most fish other than goldfish and bettas. You should have atleast a 20 gallon tank, the fish is dying because of the small environmnt and ppoor water quality. Did you use water conditioner? bet not. Bring him back, research fish for A MONTH , then go get a fish.but just be aware a fish and upkeeping it is like more expensive than taking care of a hamster...
